A hot tub can be a great thing. After a long day at work, getting into your bathing suit and hitting that hot water just feels great. But, what do you do if you want to move your hot tub from its existing location? Hot tubs are heavy and bulky, but it can be done! Take a look at these tips.
1. Drain your hot tub first – you don’t want to move a full hot tub!
2. Detach all accessories from your hot tub including filters and heaters.
3. Clean the inside of the tub.
4. Recruit some friends to help you turn the hot tub on its side, and place wooden panels underneath each side of the tub, lifting up one side and then the other (there should be a gap between the two wooden slats).
5. Using a furniture dolly, slide the flat part of the dolly underneath the hot tub.
6. Secure the hot tub, and move it to the new location.
When you arrive at the new spot, you’ll want to carefully unload the hot tub the same way that you loaded it (one side at a time), and turn it on the base right side up. If you don’t have two pieces of wood to slide underneath the tub, you can simply use the dolly for transport purposes. Either way, it makes a lot of sense to tip the tub to one side, move it onto the dolly, and unload it the same way.
Hooking It Back Up
Once you’ve brought the tub to its new location, you will want to take the time to read through your user’s manual. The manual will tell you exactly how to refill and re-attach everything you need to use your hot tub once again. Before you set anything up, though, make sure that the tub is flat and secure – you don’t want it to tip when you get in! Keep in mind that a hot tub is heavy and often hard to move. This means that you’ll want to be sure you have enough people around helping you out, or you could wind up injured. If you aren’t sure how many people you will need or if you have enough people, a moving company might be a better option.
Getting a Hot Tub Moving Estimate
Most moving companies will assist you when it comes to moving something heavy like a hot tub from one location to another. In fact, hiring professional movers to help lift an item this heavy is a good idea (you don’t want to throw your back out!). To find out if a moving company can help you, simply call one that’s near you to get an estimate; explain the situation; note how big your hot tub is; and tell the person you speak to where you want to move the tub to.
Moving companies will base a hot tub moving estimate on how big the hot tub is, and how far you need to move it. If you want to move a hot tub to another part of your yard or home, that cost shouldn’t be too high. If you want to move a hot tub from a second-hand retailer to your house, the cost could be higher – but a moving company might also charge less than store moving options, so make sure to compare rates.
Hiring a moving company may cost more than recruiting some friends or moving a tub on your own, but there are definite benefits too. For one, you won’t risk injuring yourself. Another good reason is that hot tubs are expensive! A professional moving service can get the job done quickly, right, and without creating any property damage – well worth a look!
